WEEKDAY Studio Made at Stockholm Fashion Week. For the February 2021 edition of Stockholm Fashion Week, Weekday showcases footage from an experimental workshop signed by Studio Made. Studio Made is a creative space for artists and designers to work on their craft. It emphasizes Weekday’s brand purpose of celebrating creativity and is headed by Weekday designers Annika Berger and Per Axén. In the workshop, a few selected pieces from the upcoming Weekday Plant Based Limited Edition* collection were dyed and transformed. Food waste like peel from pomegranate, avocado and red onion were mixed in dye baths with rust, alum, copperas, salt and vinegar.

The result, unique pieces with both fabric and colours made from natural waste, will be available to purchase. Learn more about this project via @weekdayofficial.

THE COLLECTION

*The Weekday Plant Based Limited Edition collection launches 4 March and features denim garments made with hemp fiber—a fiber that will find its way into Weekday’s main collections in the near future. ”With Studio Made, we do bi-weekly workshops in our stores—or, during the pandemic, at safe distance in our office studio—and make one-off pieces. We often use fabric from sample, stock, damaged or vintage garments–the idea is to inspire our customers to be resourceful with what they already have. It seems to resonate, the collections usually sell out in minutes and we get a lot of questions about the processes.” Annika Berger, Responsible Designer Print.
”We probably had ten or so dye baths going simultaneously, some for a week and some for longer.
We experimented with food waste that you tend to have at home–peels and berries that you wouldn’t eat. It turned out to be easy to create great colors and patterns, and it was nice to let the process lead the way, not being fully in control of what we would get. We learnt that the waste reacted in all kinds of different ways. The onion peel was powerful in only a day, the avocado peel created light pink and the pomegranate peel mixed with copperas went pitch black.” Per Axén, Responsible Designer Denim Brand Text Weekday is a Swedish street/fashion brand influenced by youth culture and street style.
